odds and ends from an unusual life

Free May wallpaper

Hi Friends,

My life is pretty much upside down over here so I apologize for the lateness of this wallpaper. Thanks to the loyal friends and fans who keep me on my toes.

Spring is time to get out on the water. This shot is from Halfmoon Bay in Roatan and features members of the Bay Islands Yacht club. I took it last May while sipping a drink at Sundowners and by the end of the month I’ll be right back there. I am very lucky to have such great friends. Thank you all.

Free April Snowboard Wallpaper

Hi friends,

Whoa, two posts in one day! And even while I’m on the road! If you count the tour blog and all the Monster stuff I’m posting, this might be the busiest internet day I’ve had in ages.

But you didn’t really think I’d leave you hanging on the first of the month did you? If you did, you’re the April fool. I know my duty to the faithful ones out there who use the wallpaper every single month.

Here is shot from April a couple seasons back taken at Mt. Seymour in Vancouver. It’s Eric Jackson and I shot it on a Standard Films shoot. We battled conditions and fog for a couple nights up there. It made for interesting photography but not as much film. Speed became an issue and it was hard to go as big as we’d hoped.

Anyway, it should be getting to park season this month. I’m working hard to make The Show a great event and things are lining up. I hope to see you all there.

Free March Wallpaper

Hi friends,

Welcome to March. It’s wallpaper time again. This is a shot from March a couple years ago in
Chamonix, France. I haven’t spent nearly enough time in this superstar winter town, but the times I have, have been deep and memorable. So this is the famous Aiguille du Midi with the Glacier des Bessons on the right. As the sun sets you can see this view from around town, the peaks rise like fierce teeth all around the little village. I’m in awe of that place.

Medium or Large sizes.

Free February Wallpaper

Hi Friends,

It’s wallpaper day again. After
Photoshelter featured this shot in one of their blogs recently I decided it was a good idea to use it for this months wallpaper. It’s nice and simple and easy on the eyes and I like it a lot.

I didn’t take many good photos in January and that’s bumming me out a bit. I’ve been really busy with the work I do with Monster and shooting has suffered a bit. It’s interesting, whenever I go through a creatively dry period, how I have this unfulfilled need that weighs on me. It’s really tangible and until I shoot something that I’m happy with it continues to build. Right now it weighs a ton.

It's a new year

Hi friends,

I know, I know, it’s already WAAAAY into January and you probably don’t even know what day of the week since I’m so late with my Free January Wallpaper!

Here you go. I made the Calendar blue so you can barely read it. I think this is probably a trend towards removing it altogether because let’s face it, everyone pretty much has some Calendar app that they already rely on.

This 2008 shot of Mark Landvik is one of my all time favourites. It came from my “lost season” where I was working for a magazine that folded and consequently much of my work went unpublished. This ran in Japan but I was always disappointed that it never did in North America.

I’ve removed the Ipad size due to the fact that I forgot to make it... If you you really want one, let me know. Click the links to download.

Free December Wallpaper

Hi again friends,

As per new normal, it’s the beginning of the month so here is my offering to you. It’s a free wallpaper with a handy built in calendar! Amazing!

We’ve been pretty lucky to be blessed with a lot of early season snow around these parts so many of you have been up in the mountains seeing some winter landscapes. This photo has particular meaning for me as I took it on boxing day a couple years ago on a day with my brother-in-law Paul. It was our first day sledding together and we had an amazing time doing some avalanche drills, taking photos, and just goofing around on our snowmobiles.

After we lost Paul this year I really started to cherish the shots from that day. Now you can too. In fact, this would make a pretty nice print for Christmas. Drop me a line if you are interested.

November Wallpaper

Hi friends,

Well it’s the first of November and here we go again with a free wallpaper to cover your desktop for the month. Skiers and snowboarders spend November frantically checking weather forecasts, watching the temperature drop and praying for snowfalls that will stick heavy and early and open up those hills as soon as possible. Every once in awhile the clouds part for and we get a peek at what’s to come.

Last year I woke to this view one fine day in November. I hope you see something like this early and often this month. Even if I’m still having tropical diving dreams...

Free October Wallpaper

Hi friends,

Well I was pleasantly overwhelmed by the response to the free wallpaper last month. You can never underestimate the power of something free I guess. So I turned it into canvas and it’s hanging on my wall. Everyone who has been by the house has been blown away by the depth of this print. I put it up for sale and was happy to share it with some of you.

So here we are again a month later. I liked so many pictures this month that I made two. One of them is nice and simple for cluttered desktops, the other is a little richer. They are still free and always will be. If you want to chuck a buck or 2 in the tip jar, that’s fine. If not, that’s fine too.

Again, they are available in small, medium, large and ipad. So here you go:

Calendar Wallpaper!

Inspired by the talented photographer and personal marketer David DuChemin, I’ve decided to roll out some Wallpaper Calendars for you all. I shot this today on a little walk near the Cleveland Dam in Capilano Canyon on Vancouver’s North Shore. It feels like it represents late summer/ early fall to me so I decided to offer it up to y’all. If it’s popular I’ll do this every month from now on.

Wall papers come in Large (2400x1500 pixels), Medium (1280x800) and ipad (1024x768). These correspond to the most common screen resolutions of visitors to my website according to google analytics. I just did this on a whim, so feedback is welcome and important. Enjoy!

It looks like this:
